FRAPRU Launches Tour for the Right to Housing in Gatineau

Montreal, September 5th, 2017 – The Front d’action populaire en réaménagement urbain (FRAPRU) will begin Wednesday, September 6th, a Tour for the Right to Housing. A series of popular hearings are organized in 5 cities, within 5 weeks, to collect information on the state of the right to housing. Leilani Farha, UN Special Rapporteur on adequate housing, Béatrice Vaugrante, Executive Director of Amnesty International Canada francophone section, and Christian Nadeau, President of the Ligue des droits et libertés, will preside over one or the other popular audience and receive testimony from poorly housed households.

The first hearing will take place in Gatineau on September 6th and will be chaired by Leilani Farha. A press conference will be held at 1 pm, at the Chalet du Lac-Beauchamp (741 Maloney E., in Gatineau). Will take part Mrs. Farha, François Roy, Coordinator of Logemen’Occupe, Véronique Laflamme, spokesperson for the FRAPRU and a poorly housed tenant will testify.

Afterwards, the tour will go on to Rouyn-Noranda on September 12th, Trois-Rivières on September 21st, Longueuil on September 28th and will conclude in Montreal on October 2nd, World Habitat Day.
